With Christmas only four weeks away (holy moly!) it is time I put on my thinking cap and work out a simple yet lovely gift for all those who play a part in our daily lives throughout the year. The teachers, the babysitter, colleagues, neighbours, the Aussie Farmer’s guy, friends and relatives – the list quickly adds up!
Small potted plants are a great alternative to the standard box of chocolates or a bottle of wine. They not only look gorgeous but can be useful in the case of herbs or a medicinal plant such as aloe vera, they are a true green alternative and they can be very economical to put together.
Herbs and succulents are perfect for these gifts. Buy a punnet of basil from the nursery and you will be able to divide it into at least a dozen seedlings, that with care in a few weeks will be just the right size for giving. Succulents are also economical as they constantly divide and you often find little “pups” you can break off in your own or neighbours gardens (ask before taking of course!)
After you have your plants in their pots it is all comes down to the presentation.
