DIY Christmas Wreaths – Kitchen Garden Style

Today I am going to continue with our recent Christmas theme by looking at DIY Christmas wreaths kitchen garden style.  We have been carrying on with many of our Christmas traditions for so long that most of us have forgotten what they even symbolise.  The Christmas, or Advent wreath, is made out of evergreens to represent everlasting life and as a sign of their strength for lasting through cold winters.  The circular shape represents immortality, with no beginning and no end.  It is hung on the door as a mark of celebration.  This Christian tradition stems from pagan times where wreaths were used in rituals to ensure the continuance of the circle of life.

Until doing a bit of research today I was never aware about the symbolism of using evergreens.  It has given me an extra burst of enthusiasm to make my own evergreen Christmas wreath using foliage from my garden.  And what better evergreens to use than herbs of course!

This delightful wreath of sage, oregano, rosemary and bay leaves would provide a sensory delight for anyone knocking on your door!

Other ideas for wreaths include bay leaves, eucalyptus, magnolia, conifers…

Have a look around and see what you have available to use. And each time you enter your home you will be reminded what the circle of entwined evergreens is really all about.
